Daft Eddy’s on Sketrick Island has been ranked fifth in a list of the UK’s best beer gardens for 2026.

The ranking was compiled by Big 7 Travel. Daft Eddy’s received the only Northern Ireland entry.

The pub sits beside the ruins of 12th century Sketrick Castle near Whiterocks outside Killinchy.

It is owned by Aaron Stronge and Tamara MacLeod. The business has been run by their family for more than 25 years.

Judges cited the location within a marine reserve on Strangford Lough, the food quality and customer feedback.

The venue has recorded visits from well-known individuals including actor Pierce Brosnan in July 2022.

The pub takes its name from local legend about a man named Eddy who is said to have warned authorities of a planned attack in the Killinchy area.
