A Donaghadee resident has returned to South Eastern Regional College to study ceramics while running her own podiatry business.

Karen completed an Access to HE course at the college before earning a first-class nursing degree from Queen's University Belfast. She later obtained a podiatry degree from Ulster University and established her practice in Donaghadee.

Seeking a creative outlet, she enrolled in the college's Leisure Creative Ceramics course. She learned kiln operation, glaze application, clay selection, throwing, hand-building, and joining techniques.

Karen has since progressed to the Level 2 Certificate in Creative Techniques in 3D and intends to complete the Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Ceramics.

She cited the part-time schedule and supportive environment as reasons for continuing at the college. Karen stated that the courses allow flexible timing and that fellow students inspire her work.

She recommended the college for adult learners and noted she has also suggested it to her daughter.
