Durkan questions social housing delivery in Foyle
Mark Durkan has raised concerns about the low number of social housing completions in Foyle.
The Foyle MLA told the housing minister that only 18 new social homes were completed in the area during 2025/26, out of 958 across Northern Ireland.
Durkan said it would take 350 years at the current rate to meet social housing need in Derry.
Housing minister Gordon Lyons acknowledged the increase in housing starts in recent years but said more needs to be done.
Lyons said he spent £210.7 million on social homes this year, up from £176 million the previous year and £161 million the year before.
The minister said he would have met the overall target for the year if he had received the funding earlier.
Lyons stated that the vast majority of his capital budget is spent on social homes and that he would continue to seek additional finance.
