Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council has granted planning permission for five permanent serviced sites for the Travelling Community at Legahory Close in Craigavon.

The Craigavon Traveller Support Committee welcomed the decision, which ends a seven-year process for permanent accommodation on the site.

The approval replaces a halting site that previously held temporary permission for eight pitches and steel shower units.

Each of the five new sites will include a brick amenity building with kitchen, bathroom, utility room and storage, along with space for a static caravan and two parking spaces.

A children's play area, visitor parking, street lighting, bin storage and boundary fencing with trees will also be installed.

The Craigavon Traveller Support Committee said the development will provide secure facilities that meet cultural and practical needs, improve access to public services and support the council's equality duties.

The Housing Executive will now be expected to deliver the permanent accommodation for current residents.
