Doug Beattie, Ulster Unionist Party MLA for Upper Bann, submitted his name for reselection as the party's candidate in the 2027 Stormont election. The Upper Bann branch plans to select councillor Kyle Savage at a meeting next month.

Beattie held the Upper Bann Assembly seat since 2016. He stated his focus remains on gaining the UUP nomination to continue representing constituents.

During an interview on BBC Radio Ulster's Nolan Show, Beattie described himself as honest and hard-working. He acknowledged not promoting his record effectively to party members and plans to address that.

Beattie confirmed his application has been in process for some time. He avoided discussing internal selection details, calling it a party matter.

Pressed on potential support from UUP leader Jon Burrows, Beattie noted Burrows has not blocked any applications. He emphasized his intent to serve Upper Bann voters.

Beattie did not dismiss running for another party if deselected. He cited the personal impact on himself, family, and staff, noting elections involve such uncertainties.

A UUP spokesperson said candidate selections follow party rules and standing orders. The party described the process as an internal affair.
