Man Charged with Assaulting Wife and Breaching Restraining Order in Kesh
Richard Smith, 62, from Mantlin Park in Kesh, faces charges of assaulting his wife and breaching a restraining order. Police received a 999 call from the woman at 8.30am on April 30 reporting the assault.
Officers arrived at the property and spoke to Smith outside. He told them he aimed to make her behave but denied striking her. His wife stated he hit her upper arm, which showed redness.
The restraining order bars Smith from threatening or using violence against her. It followed a similar incident last month, when he received a suspended prison sentence. This marked the fifth domestic incident between them in the past year.
A detective from the PSNI Public Protection Unit told Dungannon Magistrates Court the charges relate to each other. Another assault charge from November 2025 awaits court processing.
During police interview, Smith denied the assault and said he knew nothing of the restraining order. The detective opposed bail, noting the woman faces high risk from Smith. She fears his return due to his aggressive behaviour.
District Judge Conor Heaney granted bail at £500. Conditions require Smith to live at a police-approved address away from his wife and ban all contact with her. The case returns to Enniskillen Magistrates Court on May 11.
