RNLI Lifeguards Clear Bulk Rubbish from North Antrim Beach
RNLI lifeguards in Portrush collected over 20 bags of rubbish from Whiterocks beach in North Antrim. The waste included discarded beer cans, bottles and broken glass. Volunteers filled three council bins to capacity during the clean-up over the weekend.
The lifeguards made a public appeal for beachgoers to take their rubbish home. They noted the issue affects multiple beaches along the Northern Ireland coastline. Public members reported the mess and began clearing it before the lifeguards arrived.
Lifeguards stated the rubbish poses risks to wildlife, families, pets and barefoot walkers. They urged respect for shared spaces ahead of large gatherings on the north coast.
Separate reports emerged of rubbish including bottles and cans left in Cavehill Country Park over the same weekend.
