Tyrone Gym Owner Starts Counselling Service After Client's Suicide
Niall Hollywood, a fitness coach based in Cookstown, Tyrone, has started a mental health support service at Hollywood Fitness. The service follows the suicide of a male gym member on St Patrick's Day this year.
Hollywood gathered four qualified counsellors for the initiative, named Listening League. The counsellors are Niall Heron, Roisin McGrath, Gerard Doyle and Louise Hunter. They offer informal check-ins and support to members in the gym.
Hollywood covers the cost of the first one-to-one counselling session for any member. He aims to make support accessible and normalise mental health discussions.
Hollywood has spoken about his own past anxiety and low mood. He sought counselling previously but delayed contacting a service for six weeks. His first session provided relief.
Hollywood wants the service to encourage open conversations and reduce stigma in the fitness community.
