Michael O'Brien, 55, of Suffolk Street in Ballymena, appeared at Ballymena Magistrates' Court on Thursday. He admitted stealing more than £270 worth of goods from Eurospar in Ballymena on seven separate occasions.

The thefts took place when O'Brien paid for some items at self-checkouts but not others.

The court heard O'Brien faced financial difficulties at the time. His defence lawyer stated he was extremely apologetic.

O'Brien received a £100 fine and an order to pay £273 in restitution.
