The British government announced £50 million to fund militarisation programmes in Northern Ireland. Sinn Féin MP Chris Hazzard for South Down criticised the allocation.

Hazzard stated that the funding prioritises military spending over support for families facing heating costs. He described the decision as a political choice that neglects the cost of living crisis.

The MP pointed out recent cuts to funding for community groups in the region. He called the £50 million allocation a further setback for struggling families.

Hazzard said communities in Northern Ireland suffer from decisions made in London.
