Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew has criticised the British government for planned reductions in funding to community and voluntary organisations in Northern Ireland. The cuts, amounting to 64%, take effect on 1 April.

Gildernew, the party's communities spokesperson, stated that the measures reflect a lack of consideration for local needs. He linked the decision to Brexit outcomes and argued that Westminster policies fail to address conditions in Ireland.

Local political parties opposed the reductions collectively, Gildernew noted. The British government proceeded despite this unified stance.

The MLA warned that the funding cuts will cause job losses and service reductions. He said these changes will affect vulnerable people most severely.

Gildernew called for local control over decisions to better serve workers, families, and communities.
