An event marking Palestinian Prisoners Day took place at the Felons Club in Belfast. The gathering was organised by Coiste na nIarchimí.

Dr Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Ireland, attended the event.

West Belfast MLA Pat Sheehan spoke to those present. He stated that 9,600 Palestinians are held in Israeli jails, including 3,532 administrative detainees, 342 children, 84 female prisoners and ten Palestinian Legislative Council members.

Sheehan described recent Israeli legislation legalising the execution of Palestinian prisoners as inhumane.

He referred to Israel's actions against Palestinians as including detention and occupation. He added that the Palestinian spirit of resistance remains strong.

Sheehan called for the global boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign to continue against Israel. He urged the immediate release of all Palestinian prisoners and hostages.
