French Cyclist Tours Northern Ireland on Custom Tall Bicycle
A Frenchman named Alan Rouget has reached Belfast on a bicycle tour of Ireland. The 24-year-old from Brittany started his journey in County Cork in November. He designed and built his purple two-metre tall bike himself. The bike weighs 80kg and includes storage for a tent and ukulele plus a water dispenser and passenger seat.
Rouget has cycled over 2000km so far. He camps or stays with people he meets. In Belfast he passed a security alert in the east of the city. He plans to continue without a fixed schedule.
Rouget met Daniel Iglesias, a cyclist in Belfast who builds custom bikes. Iglesias lives in Northern Ireland and works in a friend's workshop there. He has made four bikes and owns nine in total.
