Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan called for urgent action to address failures in autism services during a Member’s Statement in the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Boylan stated that the All-Party Group for Autism received clear evidence from the Independent Autism Reviewer. He noted that individuals and families continue to face unacceptable shortcomings.

Families struggle daily to access basic supports, including autism services, post-19 provision, and mental health care, according to Boylan.

He urged the Department of Health to partner fully with the Independent Reviewer to eliminate barriers and implement changes.

Boylan emphasized that the Autism Strategy requires immediate priority to provide support for children and adults.

He expressed anticipation for the Independent Reviewer’s forthcoming report and commitment to ensure its recommendations are acted on promptly.

Sinn Féin will support individuals with autism and their families to achieve progress, Boylan said.
