Southern Regional College Students Top UK Team for WorldSkills Shanghai 2026
Five students from Southern Regional College in Northern Ireland will represent the UK at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026. The college contributes more competitors to the UK team than any other institution.
The event runs from 22 to 27 September in Shanghai. Around 1500 young people from over 80 countries will participate.
The students selected are Oisin, Ruth, Jonathan, Caolan and Patrick. They advanced through regional and national WorldSkills UK competitions, followed by specialist training in the UK and abroad.
SRC lecturers Dr Deidre Murray and Mr Stephen Chapman join as training managers. Dr Murray trains Ruth in chemical laboratory technician skills. Mr Chapman trains the UK bricklaying competitor.
WorldSkills UK Chief Executive Ben Blackledge called the selection a major achievement for Northern Ireland. He noted the competitors demonstrate technical skills, employability and readiness for work.
SRC Principal and Chief Executive Lee Campbell stated the students' success reflects their dedication and the college's training quality. She highlighted the college's focus on skills for the global economy.
