Sinn Féin councillor Fergal Leonard from Strabane supports a leaflet campaign against violence toward women and girls. His sister Concepta died in a domestic violence incident in May 2017.

Leaflets distribute across Strabane's urban and rural areas. They list support options for victims and urge community action to address gender-based abuse.

Leonard noted two recent deaths from such violence: Ellie Flanagan in Enniskillen and Amy Doherty in Derry. He stated that 30 women died in similar cases in Northern Ireland over less than six years.

The councillor called on men and boys to help end the violence. He stressed that no woman or girl should live in fear or suffer in silence without support to escape abuse, stalking or coercive control.

Leonard encouraged victims or those aware of victims to seek available help. He said perpetrators bear the shame.
