Áras Uí Chonghaile Names Room After US Transport Workers Union Leaders
Áras Uí Chonghaile in Belfast held an event on Good Friday to rededicate its meeting space to Mike Quill and John Samuelsen of the US Transport Workers Union.
The space, now called the Quill/Samuelsen Room, will host educational programmes and community initiatives.
Mike Quill founded the Transport Workers Union. He organised workers in New York subways and buses.
John Samuelsen serves as the union's current International President. He has family roots in Derry.
Fáilte Feirste Thiar Director Harry Connolly described the renaming as a proud moment. He noted the union's support has aided the James Connolly Visitor Centre.
John Samuelsen called it a privilege for the union to be recognised at the centre. He said Mike Quill brought James Connolly's ideas to the United States.
