Eddie Dempsey, General Secretary of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT), is scheduled to appear at Féile 2026 in Derry. He will speak at Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin on Monday, August 10 at 7pm.

His discussion will focus on workers, class politics, and the trade union movement’s role in fighting racism, division and the rise of the far right.

Dempsey succeeded Mick Lynch as General Secretary and has been central to campaigns for improved pay, conditions and public ownership. He helped lead the RMT, which represents over 40,000 rail workers, through a major industrial dispute that resulted in gains on pay and conditions.

The RMT gained prominence as an organisation advocating for working people, and Dempsey has contributed to public debate on the power of organised labour and the need for services run in the public interest rather than for profit.

Registration for the event is available online.
