Planning Application Lodged for 16,000-Hen Poultry Unit Near Brookeborough
A planning application has been filed for a free-range poultry unit to hold up to 16,000 laying hens on farmland near Brookeborough in County Fermanagh. The site lies near Raw Road.
The proposal includes a poultry shed, two feed bins, a manure storage facility, and an underground effluent tank. Rooftop photovoltaic panels feature on the shed. Site works cover yard areas, drainage systems, a swale, and a new access lane.
A new entrance will serve the poultry unit, an existing farm, and a nearby dwelling. The current farm entrance will close.
Niall Hudson owns the established farm enterprise listed in the application, submitted by Farm Design Solutions. The unit aims to expand the holding and add income from free-range eggs amid market shortages.
Documents position the shed to maintain separation from homes and reduce biosecurity risks. An air quality assessment accompanies the plans. Materials will match existing farm buildings per DAERA guidelines.
