Councillor Criticises DfI Over Unremoved Illegal Speed Signs in Hillsborough
Alderman Allan Ewart has criticised the Department for Infrastructure for failing to remove illegally erected 20mph speed signs in Hillsborough. The green circular signs stand on Main Street and Lisburn Street. They have been in place for about a year.
Ewart expressed disappointment that the department cannot allocate time to remove the signs. He stated they potentially create hazards for drivers. He added that small actions can reduce accidents across Northern Ireland.
A Department for Infrastructure spokesperson said the department knows of the signs. The spokesperson noted resource limitations prevent removal as a priority. Priority goes to unauthorised signs posing clear road safety risks.
Signs presenting low risk to road users will be removed when resources allow.
