Gardaí have recovered a body during the search for Shane McEvoy, a 38-year-old man from Newry in County Down. The missing person appeal has been stood down.

McEvoy was reported missing from Dundalk in County Louth since Friday, March 13. He was last seen between 9pm and 9.30pm that evening near Thompson’s yard by the Circle K service station close to junction 20 in Drumad, County Louth.

He wore a dark top and dark jeans at the time. Officers noted he walked with a limp and may have been injured.

PSNI requested assistance from Sky Watch NI on March 18. The group used drones and equipment near the border with An Garda Síochána and the Irish Army.

A Gardaí spokesperson confirmed the body discovery on March 19 and thanked the media for support.
