East Londonderry SDLP MLA Cara Hunter has submitted multiple questions to Stormont ministers over surging home heating oil prices affecting Northern Ireland households.

Hunter asked the Minister for the Economy about steps to combat price gouging in the domestic heating oil market and existing enforcement tools to safeguard consumers.

She also queried the Minister for Communities on plans to enact legislation regulating the home heating oil sector. Many Northern Ireland homes depend on oil for heating due to limited mains gas availability.

In further questions, Hunter sought details on coordination among the Department for the Economy, Department of Finance, and local councils to pinpoint vulnerable households and provide targeted aid.

Constituents in East Londonderry contacted Hunter to report financial strain from escalating oil costs, especially in winter when usage peaks.
