Two police officers suffered injuries in a collision with a stolen vehicle in west Belfast on Sunday evening. The vehicle, a white VW Tiguan, was taken during a burglary in the Catherine Court area of Newtownabbey shortly after 9pm.

A man entered a property and took the car's keys before driving away. A second man joined him at the entrance to Catherine Court. The car travelled along the Shore Road onto the M2 toward the city, later appearing in the Springfield Road area.

Police spotted the vehicle moving quickly on the Monagh Bypass. It did not stop when signalled and continued via Falls Road, Glen Crescent, Glen Road, and Norglen Gardens. The pursuit ended on Monagh Link where it struck a police car.

The police vehicle sustained extensive damage. The officers' injuries are not serious. Both arrested men are in their 20s and remain in custody.

One faces suspicion of burglary, various driving offences, failing to stop for police, not remaining at or reporting the accident, and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. The other is suspected of burglary, allowing himself to be carried in a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, disorderly behaviour, and possessing a Class C controlled drug.
