Finance Minister John O'Dowd visited The Vault Recovery wellness centre in Draperstown, Mid Ulster. The centre occupies a former bank building vacant for nine years.

The Back in Business scheme provides a 50% discount on business rates for up to two years. Eligible firms occupy retail properties empty for 12 months or longer.

O'Dowd stated the scheme aims to revive high streets and support new or expanding businesses. He called The Vault Recovery an example of its benefits, noting the centre now serves the local community and boosts nearby footfall.

The minister urged business owners planning to start or expand to move into vacant retail units and claim the support.

Since May 2024, 12 businesses in Mid Ulster received over £47,200 in rates relief through the scheme.

Cathal McDaid and Roisin McDaid own The Vault Recovery. They said the relief improved cash flow for business investment. The centre offers recovery services for sports, work, and daily life.
