Finance Minister John O’Dowd visited The Vault Recovery in Draperstown, Mid Ulster. The business occupies a former bank building vacant for nine years. It transformed the site into a wellness centre after joining the Back in Business scheme.

The scheme offers a 50% discount on business rates for up to two years. Qualifying properties must have stood empty for at least 12 months. O’Dowd stated the programme supports new and expanding businesses by restoring activity to high streets and aiding local communities.

Owners Cathal McDaid and Roisin McDaid noted the relief improved their cash flow for business investment. The centre provides recovery services for sports, work and daily life.

Since May 2024, 12 businesses in Mid Ulster received more than £47,200 in total rates relief through the scheme. O’Dowd encouraged firms to apply for support when using vacant retail units.
