Portglenone Community Toilet Scheme Opens Public Access in Local Businesses
Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has launched a Community Toilet Scheme in Portglenone. Local businesses on Main Street participate by allowing public use of their toilet facilities at no charge during normal opening hours. No purchase is required.
The scheme supplements public toilets at Portglenone Marina. Participating businesses include The Wild Duck at 93 Main Street, open Wednesday to Thursday from 12pm to 8pm, Friday to Saturday from 12pm to 9pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 8pm. The Fiddler’s Rest at 71 Main Street operates Wednesday to Sunday from 12pm until late. O’Connells Bar at 10 Main Street is available Monday to Sunday from 11.30am to 11.30pm.
Businesses retain the right to refuse entry to individuals they would normally deny access. The council provides promotion and an annual fee to support participants. Mayor Councillor Jackson Minford stated the initiative encourages use of convenient facilities and offers businesses a way to contribute to the community while potentially increasing visitors.
Portglenone businesses interested in joining must hold public liability insurance. They can contact the council’s Waste Helpdesk at Waste.Helpdesk@midandeastantrim.gov.uk or by calling 0300 124 5000.
