Walled City Music Festival Plans School Visits and Composer Workshops for 2026
Cathal Breslin, co-artistic director of Walled City Music, will visit schools in Derry to perform and discuss his path from local student to international artist. The visits seek to show pupils that careers in the arts are possible from Derry.
The Walled City Music Festival, an annual classical music event in Derry founded in 2008 by Breslin and Sabrina Hu, runs from 12 to 15 March 2026 at Christ Church on Infirmary Road. Organisers emphasise education and artistic development in the programme.
A composer workshop during the four-day festival allows emerging composers to hear their works performed and refined with professional artists. Gráinne Mulvey serves as composer-in-residence.
Composers will collaborate with performers including harpist Clíona Doris and violist David Doherty. The festival supports new music creation through partnerships between artists and participants.
Walled City Music positions Derry as a centre for concerts and musical development by combining international acts with local initiatives. Tickets and full details appear on the festival website.
