Infrastructure Minister Delays A1 Road Safety Scheme Phase 2
The Minister for Infrastructure has postponed Phase 2 of the A1 road safety improvement scheme by 12 months.
Alliance Upper Bann MLA Eoin Tennyson expressed disappointment at the decision. He stated that the delay leaves road users at continued risk.
The A1 dual carriageway runs from Belfast through counties Down and Armagh to the border near Newry. The upgrade scheme addresses ongoing safety issues on this key route.
Phase 1 of the works covered sections in Armagh. Phase 2 extends improvements further along the road.
Northern Ireland Executive ministers oversee infrastructure projects like road upgrades. Delays often stem from funding and planning constraints.
