SERC Reflexology Students Attend Daisy Lodge Workshop on Cancer Care
Students enrolled in the VTCT Skills Level 4 Diploma in Reflexology for the Complementary Therapist course at South Eastern Regional College participated in a workshop delivered by Patricia McDaniels, Lead Therapist at Daisy Lodge.
The workshop covered an overview of Daisy Lodge's operations, cancer awareness, adapting reflexology techniques, and practical adaptations. It also highlighted volunteering opportunities at Daisy Lodge and through Cancer Fund for Children, focusing on complementary therapies' role in supporting children and families via therapeutic support, respite services, and community programmes.
The following week, students visited Daisy Lodge in Newcastle for a guided tour of the facility, discussions on its work, and afternoon tea, providing further insight into the holistic care environment.
Sancha Dicks, Lecturer in Complementary Therapies at SERC, described the experience as informative and supportive of the course unit on adapting techniques for cancer patients.
Applications for full-time courses at SERC are open online, with a full-time open evening scheduled from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday 5 March at Bangor, Downpatrick, Lisburn, and Newtownards campuses.
