Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council's Planning Committee has approved plans to convert part of Clotworthy House in Antrim Castle Gardens into an ice cream parlour. The decision was unanimous.

The new facility will replace the existing shop, reception, and garden exhibition area with an indoor seating area serving ice cream and hot drinks. It is expected to operate year-round, including during winter months.

The council expects the parlour to generate around £35,000 in annual revenue. Current costs for the shop have risen to £39,936 for 2024/25, up from £21,852 the previous year.

Clotworthy House is a Grade B+ listed building dating from the early Victorian period, originally constructed as a coach house and stables in the Tudor Revival style. The planning report noted that the development would not negatively affect the building's character or the amenity of the area.

Antrim Castle Gardens is a registered historic park and garden and a major tourist attraction. The recent Enchanted Winter Garden event drew over 90,000 visitors at the end of 2025.

The proposal was put forward by Councillor Stephen Cosgrove and seconded by Councillor Robert Foster. No opening date has been confirmed.
