Community arts organisations across Northern Ireland can now apply for capital funding of up to £25,000 through the Small Capital Grants Programme. The scheme, worth £750,000 in total, opened this week and closes on 16 November 2026.

The programme, administered by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, is intended to help groups buy new equipment or carry out minor works to their premises. It is open to any arts organisation, with priority given to projects that benefit people covered by Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998, which includes groups such as those from different religious or political backgrounds, different ages, or with disabilities.

Communities Minister Gordon Lyons announced the launch, stating that the funding would support organisations in creating new work and protecting facilities. He said the programme is a further investment in the arts, which play a vital role in the region's social and economic life.

Jim Webster of Streetwise Community Circus, a previous recipient, said the programme had been a great boost for his organisation. The group used a £25,000 grant last year to buy a branded van, which helps promote the circus and transport equipment.

The Arts Council said the funding can be used for new equipment, structural changes, or refurbishments that improve accessibility or programming delivery. Examples include upgrades to enhance audience experiences or adaptations for participants with specific needs.

Gilly Campbell, Director of Arts Development at the Arts Council, welcomed the reopening of the scheme and thanked the minister for making the funding available. She said the programme gives organisations much-needed support to continue bringing arts and culture to communities.
