A 51-year-old woman has been fined £100 after pleading guilty to possessing cannabis at Belfast International Airport.

Elwira Fejkiel, of Iris Street in Belfast, admitted possessing a Class B controlled drug on December 8 last year. The drugs were discovered in a balloon in her jeans pocket during a search at the airport around 7am.

At Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, the court heard Fejkiel initially told staff she had found the balloon on the floor of the search area. However, she made no attempt to hand it to security until it was found during the search.

A check of CCTV footage showed that Fejkiel did not pick anything up from the floor, contradicting her account. She was fined £100 on Tuesday.
