A 33-year-old man has been banned from driving for nine months and fined £500 after admitting to careless driving, failing to remain at a collision, and having no insurance. The incident occurred on December 20 last year in the Stiles Way area of Antrim.

Caine Mills, of Bush Manor in Antrim, collided with a stationary car, causing extensive rear damage to the other vehicle. The other driver reported having lights and indicators on at the time. Mills left the scene, but DNA evidence was found on the airbag of his Audi.

Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, heard that Mills had 30 previous convictions. District Judge Nigel Broderick described it as a "bad case" due to the defendant fleeing the scene. A defence barrister said the incident was a "wake-up call" for Mills, who wished to apologise.

In a separate case at the same court, police revealed that CCTV cameras in the Church Street area of Ballymena were not working during an alleged breach of a restraining order on September 21. The officer told the court that checks for footage proved negative because the cameras that would have shown the area were non-functional.

The defendant in that case, Christopher Severne, 53, of Dunclug Gardens, Ballymena, faces charges of breaching a restraining order. A woman reported that Severne drove towards her, got out, and shouted at her, leaving her feeling anxious and harassed. Severne admitted being in the area but denied any verbal allegations.

District Judge Broderick granted bail of £500 with conditions including a 9pm to 7am curfew, no contact with the woman, and exclusion from part of Ballymena. The case was adjourned to October 20. The court was told Severne was released from prison in July for domestic abuse against the same woman.

Last year, Severne was sentenced to nine months in jail for domestic abuse that occurred between February 2022 and April 2025, which included installing a ring doorbell to monitor the woman's movements and frequently calling her. He had also worn a T-shirt with the message "I'm with stupid" as part of the abuse campaign.
