A 34-year-old Lurgan man has admitted causing grievous bodily harm in a one-punch incident.

Emmet Colum Murphy appeared at Craigavon Magistrates Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to a single charge relating to an assault on December 7 last year.

His barrister told the court that it was a one punch case and that the injured party was a friend of the defendant.

The court heard there was no dispute over the victim's statement and that Murphy had made admissions during police interview.

District Judge Micheal Ranaghan asked the prosecution to obtain a Victim Impact Statement and ordered a Pre-Sentence Report.

The judge noted that while Murphy had only a limited criminal record, the offence itself was significant. He warned Murphy, whose new address is Levin Road, Lurgan, that failure to attend with Probation would leave custody as the only option.

The case was adjourned until November 4.
