The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) will hold an Open Evening for its food courses at Loughry Campus in Cookstown on Tuesday 6 October.

Guided tours of the campus will depart at 4:30pm and 6:30pm. Visitors can see facilities including the Food Technology Centre, Sensory Suite, and Packaging Laboratory.

Staff will be available to discuss course options, entry requirements, and career pathways. Courses range from Level 3 programmes to higher education and higher level apprenticeships.

Representatives from student support, residential services, and student finance will answer questions.

Fintan McCann, Head of Food Education at Loughry Campus, said the evening offers a chance to see the learning facilities and meet students and staff. He described how the courses provide practical skills and industry knowledge for careers in food and drink.

Northern Ireland's food and drink industry generates £7.3 billion in economic value and supports almost 109,000 jobs. It accounts for over one-third of all manufacturing sales in the region.

While Northern Ireland has less than 3% of the UK population, it produces more than 10% of the UK's food output.
