A claim by Sir Chris Bryant that the Windsor Framework provides Northern Ireland with a "unique advantage" has drawn criticism from the deputy leader of the Ulster Unionist Party.

Diana Armstrong MLA said the UK government should not try to repackage friction caused by the Irish Sea border as an opportunity.

She was responding to remarks made by Bryant, who serves as a minister in the UK government.

The Windsor Framework, agreed in 2023, sets out the post-Brexit trading rules for Northern Ireland, keeping it aligned with some EU single market rules while remaining part of the UK customs territory.

The arrangements have been a source of ongoing political tension, with unionist parties arguing they undermine Northern Ireland's constitutional position within the United Kingdom.
