Lyons sends backing to Northern Ireland team ahead of Glasgow Commonwealth Games
Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has expressed his support for Northern Ireland athletes competing at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The 23rd edition of the Games takes place from 23 July to 2 August 2026. Lyons said the athletes would be outstanding ambassadors and highlighted their dedication, resilience and commitment as an inspiration to others.
He linked participation in sport to improvements in both physical and mental health. Lyons pointed to the power of sport to bring people together and build stronger communities, urging the public to become more active through the Move More, Live Better campaign.
The minister encouraged everyone to enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle, saying the athletes' determination and positive attitudes could motivate people of all ages.
