The committal hearing for the attempted murder of former PSNI officer John Caldwell has been postponed again after investigators uncovered new CCTV footage.

At a hearing at Omagh Magistrates Court, the Public Prosecution Service said the material, dated to 10 February 2023, was found during an examination of evidence. The directing officer assessed it as significant and highly relevant to the case.

Because of the new footage and delays in preparing other evidence, an August target for the committal cannot be met. The prosecution requested a further four weeks, aiming for a hearing in mid-October.

District Judge Conor Heaney noted the allegations are approaching their fourth anniversary. He said he was disappointed and concerned, and that the delay was having a detrimental impact on defendants, witnesses and the alleged victim.

Mr Caldwell was off-duty when he was shot multiple times at a sports complex after coaching a youth football team in Omagh in February 2023. He retired from the police on medical grounds in December 2024.

A number of people have been charged with offences connected to the attack. The judge adjourned the case until 18 August for an update.
