Saintfield Plans Independence Day Event for USA 250 Anniversary
Saintfield will host a free public event on Saturday 4 July to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Organised by Saintfield Community Association, the celebration will begin at 10am in the village with activities including a Boston Tea Party theme, bluegrass music, children’s stories and crafts, a petting pony, live music, and craft demonstrations. These run until 1pm.
From 2pm, the focus moves to Saintfield Community Centre and Windmill Park, where attractions will include line dancing, horseshoe throwing, stook making, an American fancy dress competition for primary school children, and food stalls. The first 250 visitors will each receive a £2.50 voucher to spend on food.
Local re-enactors Ian and Kathryn Eagleson will lead a living history encampment in Windmill Park, recreating 18th-century frontier life with traditional cooking, camp displays, and flintlock firing demonstrations. Live music will also be provided by The Muddy Puddle Jumpers.
The event is funded by the Department for Communities through its USA-NI 250 fund, which supports projects highlighting historical links between Northern Ireland and the United States. Admission is free.
