A man has been given a suspended prison sentence after being convicted of benefit fraud in Enniskillen.

Gary Hutchinson, 37, of Loane Drive, Moneynoe Glebe, appeared before Enniskillen Magistrates’ Court. He failed to declare capital while claiming Universal Credit, resulting in an overpayment of £4,441.35.

The fraud was uncovered by an investigation from the Department for Communities. The court sentenced Hutchinson to four months imprisonment, suspended for one year, and ordered him to repay the money he had improperly obtained.

Suspected benefit fraud can be reported anonymously to the Department for Communities through the nidirect website.
