The Justice Minister has withdrawn a consultation on firearms licensing fees and a proposed banded system.

DUP South Antrim MLA Trevor Clarke said the decision followed criticism from certificate holders, clubs and dealers over the information provided and the consultation process.

Clarke stated that the need for a properly resourced licensing system is not disputed, but that any changes must be proportionate and based on proper engagement with those affected.

He called on the Minister to listen to concerns, rebuild confidence and ensure future proposals are workable and balanced.

Clarke also said the PSNI must carry out an internal review of its own systems and processes.
