New regulations introducing baby loss certificates will come into effect in June.

Sinn Féin MLA Jemma Dolan said the certificates will allow parents and families to have their loss formally acknowledged.

Dolan hosted an event in October to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week and heard directly from families affected by pregnancy loss.

She served on the committee that helped shape the legislation.

Dolan thanked families who shared their experiences and the organisations that support them.

She also thanked the Finance Minister and department officials for their work in bringing the scheme forward.

The certificates will not remove the loss or pain but may assist people at a difficult time.
