Ten pupils from Roddensvale School in Carrickfergus completed placements under the Mid and East Antrim World of Work programme.

The placements included practical work at Papa Browns restaurant, where students prepared and served food during three sessions.

Papa Browns organised two extra sessions after the initial placements, one at the school cafe and one at the restaurant.

An afternoon tea event took place at the restaurant on 22 May 2026.

Two Deputy Lieutenants, Jackie Stewart and Jane Allen, attended the event along with council Director of People Matt McDowell.

School Principal John Madden welcomed the guests.

Matt McDowell said the students served the tea with skill and that Papa Browns had supported the programme beyond the original plan.

Matthew Wright of Papa Browns said the students showed strong commitment during the sessions and that profits from the school cafe session would be reinvested in supplies.

The World of Work programme ran across seven primary and eight post-primary schools in the borough, with support from several hospitality businesses and Tourism NI.
