Police Officer Found Dead on Beach in Portrush
A serving PSNI detective inspector was found dead on Whiterocks Beach outside Portrush in County Antrim on Sunday 17 May.
Police cordoned off the area and asked the public to avoid the beach while officers attended the scene.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and a post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause.
Alderman Richard Brown Stewart, deputy mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, expressed sadness at the discovery and thanked emergency services for their response.
He asked the public to respect the privacy of the family during the investigation.
Separately, police responded to a report of a body in the water at Kilbroney Park near Rostrevor in County Down at approximately 8.45am the same day.
That death is also not being treated as suspicious and a post-mortem will take place in due course.
