Ards and North Down Council Launches Shopfront Improvement Grant
Ards and North Down Borough Council has launched the Freshen Up Grant to support shopfront improvements in priority town and city centres. The grant funds painting and power-washing works for eligible businesses and building owners paying commercial rates in designated areas.
The initiative forms part of the council's Supporting Thriving High Streets Programme and receives funding from the Department for Communities. Applications opened immediately and close on 29 May 2026 at noon.
Mayor Councillor Gillian McCollum stated that the grant allows local businesses to improve their premises appearance and add to the vitality of city and town centres. She added that joint efforts can produce inviting spaces to draw residents and visitors for local spending and economic support.
Businesses must operate from commercial properties within town or city centre boundaries to qualify. Council officials urge early applications via the website to aid area revitalisation.
