South Eastern Trust School Nurses Deliver Key Vaccines to Pupils Across Area
School nurses in the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust deliver vaccines to children and young people in various settings including schools, GP practices, health clinics and hospital sites.
The teams provide the HPV vaccine to pupils in Years 9 and 10. They also administer the school leaving booster to Year 11 and 12 pupils, along with meningitis, MMR and flu vaccines.
School Immunisation Nurse Kathleen McDaid works with a small team that travels across the Trust area to carry out these vaccinations throughout the year. The team maintains working relationships with schools, children and young people.
McDaid stated that the team aims to improve young people's health. She added that vaccination prevents serious illness and diseases in childhood and later life.
