The Northern Ireland Executive held a meeting on Thursday and decided to request a meeting with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer over budget difficulties.

First Minister Michelle O’Neill told reporters after the meeting that the budget stands at breaking point. She said all ministers described challenges in delivering public services. O’Neill stated that decisions in London complicate the Executive's work.

The Executive invited Secretary of State Hilary Benn to the meeting but he did not attend due to scheduling issues. O’Neill said the group seeks a cross-party discussion with Starmer because budget conditions remain challenging.

Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly said people in Northern Ireland cannot wait for action. She called on Starmer to provide comprehensive support immediately. Little-Pengelly noted that the UK Government holds the tools and responsibility to respond now.
