A new general practitioner contractor has accepted the contract for Silverbirch Medical Practice in Bangor, North Down. The practice serves 2,700 patients. The new contract starts on June 1.

North Down MLA Alan Chambers confirmed the appointment with Health Minister Mike Nesbitt. Chambers welcomed the news for patients relying on the practice.

Dr Steven Kinnear provided services at the practice for nearly a decade. He will end his services on May 31.

The Strategic Planning and Performance Group managed the selection process. This included staff engagement, patient communication, and competitive recruitment. Interviews occurred on March 31. The preferred candidate confirmed acceptance.

Chambers prioritised avoiding disruption to GP services. He worked with the minister and health officials for a stable outcome. Patients received notice of the transition in March. Further updates will follow as documentation finalises.

Chambers thanked the outgoing GP for community service. He assured patients of continued high-quality care.
