DAERA Minister Publishes Rural Needs Monitoring Report
DAERA Minister Andrew Muir MLA published the eighth Rural Needs Annual Monitoring Report covering 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025. The report records 666 Rural Needs Impact Assessments conducted by government departments, local councils, and other public authorities.
The Rural Needs Act (Northern Ireland) 2016 requires public authorities to consider the social and economic needs of rural dwellers in their functions. Minister Muir commended public authorities for their contributions, noting their increased recognition of rural needs and commitment to equitable outcomes for rural communities.
The assessments address challenges such as access to services and infrastructure limitations. Minister Muir stated his department will partner with public authorities to foster inclusive, sustainable rural communities that reflect rural realities.
