The Western Health and Social Care Trust operates scheduled transport for medical samples from the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen to Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry.

TUV MLA Timothy Gaston asked the Department of Health about any formal coordination policy for transporting tests and samples within the Trust and any assessment of financial impacts from uncoordinated journeys.

The Trust runs two in-house transport services each weekday between the hospitals.

One in-house run occurs each day on weekends and bank holidays.

Systems monitor laboratory expenses, which include taxi use for urgent samples.

The Trust keeps expenditure under ongoing review.
